Years 5 and 6 International Links and Sister Cities Writing Contest

The 2017 Years 5 and 6 International Links and Sister Cities 2017 Writing Contest is now open

With entries received from over 40% of our primary schools and positive feedback and support for the 2015 and 2016 contests, new initiatives for this year’s contest include:

  • Expansion to include students from Year 5
  • Conducted during term 3 to reduce congestion in the last term of the year
  • Redesigned entry form
  • Presentations to be conducted by the Mayor and/or Ward Councillors at individual schools
  • To allow more creative story-telling, the maximum word limit has been increased from 50 to 200 words or less.

Council would now like to invite students from Years 5 and 6 at Primary Schools within the Blacktown LGA to participate in the International Links and Sister Cities 2017 writing contest by explaining in 200 words or less and using examples where possible, how diversity, culture and friendship unite people.

Entry is easy. Creativity is easy, so please encourage your students to go for it!

All entrants will receive a participation certificate with winners, runners-up and/or highly commended to receive a Hoyts movie voucher or Featherdale Wildlife Park pass.

Winning schools (2 per ward), will also receive a $100 gift voucher to purchase educational items.

The judging panel will comprise 3 Council representatives. Closing date is 4.00pm on Friday, 25 August 2017. Click here to download an entry form.

Blacktown Council has 4 Sister City partners and an agreement with the League of Cities Philippines. For more information or to download extra entry forms, visit the following website: www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au/sistercities

With the approval of school principals, the Mayor and/or Ward Councillors will present the vouchers, awards and certificates at individual schools.

Should you require any further information please contact Gordon Allen or Greg McCallum, Sister Cities Project Officer at Blacktown Council on 9839 6050 or 9839 6551.
