Blacktown City Council will team up with Sport NSW and Variety NSW to deliver an ‘Activate Inclusion Sports Days’ for school aged children with disabilities, mental health or learning difficulties.
The FREE event will take place at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope on Wednesday 31 May, from 10am to 2pm. Teachers, families and students are asked to register by 9:30am on the day to begin activity rotations at 10am after Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali opens the event.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali, said the Active Inclusion Sports Days is an opportunity for people with a disability to try a range of sports and active recreation activities.
"There will be everything from tennis, futsal, netball, basketball to touch football for the community to try out," said Mayor Bali.
"The event is a fun and interactive day for all school ages and takes into consideration the needs of each individual by offering adaptive equipment and tailoring the activities to suit the individual’s own pace and level of engagement."
Sport NSW, Variety NSW, Ability Links and Blacktown City Council will all have presentations for families, teachers and area advocates from 10:15am, with exhibitors also on hand to deliver community services to the local area for the event at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope.
Lunch and bottled water will also be supplied on the day.
"Events like this are extremely important for the community. They not only offer people with a disability, mental health and learning difficulties the chance to be active, but also provide valuable knowledge to families, teachers and other advocates within the local area," Mayor Bali added.
