We have developed a recognition program to acknowledge businesses that are proactively preventing pollution by storing, handling and managing hazardous substances in accordance with environmental law.
This program is designed to lower the potential for pollution, and at the same time encourage, support and recognise environmental achievements.
Rather than concentrating our efforts on penalising businesses causing environmental harm, we are looking to help businesses better understand their environmental responsibilities, acknowledge and encourage those setting a positive example.
We are currently focussing on premises storing and handling more than 500 litres of hazardous liquid. If you fall into this category, our environmental health officers will arrange an inspection of your site to assess your level of compliance. All premises in this category are assessed against the same criteria. If you meet this minimum standard, you will be recognised with a certificate of achievement.
