People with Disabilities

It is estimated that almost 20% of the total population of Australia has some kind of disability. Blacktown City Council is committed to the principles of developing communities where everyone has fair and equal access to services that are essential to achieving and maintaining a decent lifestyle.

An Accessible Community can be described as a community that provides people with disabilities with the same opportunities as other people in the community to access transportation systems, physical environment, communications systems, technological systems, political, cultural, bureaucratic, corporate, social institutions and employment practices.

It is important to acknowledge that some people need more help than others to be equal. Blacktown City Council is committed to making its services and facilities accessible for everyone and to give people with disabilities the same access as everyone else.
