Blacktown City Council together with residential, commercial and business owners and Government Landowners, are committed to establishing and promoting high quality streetscapes that improve the amenity of Council’s roads and streets and facilitate safe pedestrian and vehicle movement that reflects its local character and engenders a sense of community pride.
Requests are received from the community to convert their traditional grass verges to low growing shrub gardens or in some cases synthetic grass. In these instances, maintenance of these converted verges and gardens would be the responsibility of the resident and would need to meet strict criteria for their installation and ongoing upkeep.
The Vegetated Road Verge & Nature Strip Maintenance Approval Policy formalises Council’s position in considering requests for these services and establishes the criteria to be used when assessing applications to change vegetated road verges and nature strips.
The Policy also clarifies Council's position and the process involved where the community is seeking assistance from Council on the ongoing maintenance of their nature strips.
Residents wishing to modify an existing road verge or make application to have your verge maintained by Council, will need to do so by reading the policy and making an application which can be downloaded using the link below.
