Vegetation Clearing

Since Europeans first settled the Sydney Basin the original bushland has been extensively cleared to make way for other landuses. Originally, most of the clearing took place to make paddocks for animals to graze, fields to grow crops on and for wood. As Sydney began to grow, it was primarily cleared for urban and rural developments. Today the main reason for the clearing of bushland in the area is urban development. Clearing still poses a big threat to the remaining stands of some of Sydney's vegetation communities.
