Urban Impacts
There are many impacts on bushland associated with urban environments.
Rubbish Dumping
It is quite common to find evidence of rubbish dumping in urban bushland. This can contaminate soil and is visually unpleasant. Dumped garden waste including lawn clippings can quite often carry weed propugules and bring new weed species to the area.
Domestic Animals
Pets such as cats that are free to roam can pose a threat to native wildlife.
Mowing
Areas of bushland next to recreational spaces such as parks can be damaged by mowing. Whilst recreational areas are needed, some areas would benefit from allowing the understory to regenerate by stopping the mowing of the area.
Clearing for Access Roads and Tracks
This creates disturbance along either side of the road or track and is an avenue for weed species to enter the vegetation community. Any dirt on car tyres that pass through may contain weed seeds. Any people walking through may have weeds seeds attached to their clothing, like the seeds from cobblers pegs, or in dirt on their shoes.
