Bill Colbourne Reserve
Bill Colbourne Reserve is located on Hill End Rd, Doonside.
The reserve has a small portion of regenerating Castlereagh Ironbark Forest, containing an almost pure stand of Eucalyptus fibrosa with a scattered Melaleuca decora middle story and a grassy ground layer. A wider variety of native species can be found in the 'No Mow' and regeneration areas.
Regeneration beginning in the "no mow" zones
The Bill Colbourne Reserve Park Committee was formed in 1998. Since that time, a lot of work has been undertaken in the reserve, including:
- A section of the reserve being set aside for regeneration. Since mowing has stopped, many native plant species have started to grow.
- Planting of native trees, shrubs and ground covers on regular work days and special 'Environment open days'
- Identification of native plants.
