Gleesons Trees Reserve
Gleesons Trees Reserve is a small pocket of Shale Plains Woodland situated in the heart of Blacktown, bounded by Flushcombe Rd, Heapy and Patricia Streets. It is an important remnant in an otherwise heavily developed area.
Raised pathways throughout the reserve minimises the impact of the public on the bushland.
Although a small reserve, the diversity of species on this site is good, and it is a good representation of Cumberland Plain Vegetation. The understorey consists of dense patches of Blackthorn (Bursaria Spinosa) and also contains the regionally significant Daviesia genistifolia and Pultenaea microphylla. The ground cover includes Eremophila debilis, Cheilanthes seeberi and Themeda australis.
Gleesons Trees Reserve shows good species diversity and contains regionally significant species.
In 1996 an open-air classroom was constructed within the reserve. The classroom features interpretive signage outlining the characteristics of the native fauna and flora found in the reserve, and highlighting the importance of the reserve in the suburban setting.
The open-air classroom in the Reserve is a great educational tool for the community.
