Knudsen Reserve

Knudsen Reserve is located on Garfield Rd West at Riverstone. The reserve sits on the banks of Eastern Creek and has stands of Cumberland Plain Woodland and Alluvial Woodland. It is an important link in the Eastern Creek corridor and aids the movement of flora and fauna through the region.

The canopy contains species such as Grey Box and Forest Red Gum, with Casuarina glauca and Melaleuca decora found along the creekline. The understorey includes Bursaria spinosa, Acacia spp., Hibbertia spp., Goodenia spp. and Bulbine bulbosa. The ground cover consists of species such as Einadia hastata and Themeda australis.

The Friends of Knudsen Reserve have met regularly in the reserve since 1996. Their work has involved regeneration activities, including testing innovative approaches to assisting natural regeneration, as well as generating substantial community interest, education and awareness in natural resource management.

In 2002 Knudsen Reserve was identified as a ‘Bushcare Best Practice Demonstration Site’ in the Bushcare support program, managed by Greening Australia on behalf of Environment Australia and the Natural Heritage Trust.

The Friends of Knudsen Reserve meet on the 1st Sunday of every month, between 9am — 1pm.
