Gardens and Recycling in Urban Blacktown (GRUB)
The Gardens and Recycling in Urban Blacktown (GRUB) program aims to
This is being achieved through the development of working community gardens in Bidwill, Emerton, Toongabbie/Seven Hills, and Willmot involving community groups, government agencies, school children, churches and individual volunteers.
All the gardens have been developed utilising organic/no dig garden principles and techniques involving composting and the recycling of household and garden waste.
The GRUB Program also sponsors regular free demonstrations for residents providing practical information on how to reduce, reuse and recycle at home and at work including composting, worm farming and no dig gardening. Click here for more information on composting and worm farming.
Additionally, Council has supported the construction and development of the Edmund Rice Community Pride Nursery at Bidwill. The nursery cultivates plants from donated cuttings and seedlings, and the plants are given to local residents free of charge.
Please visit the attached pages for further information on existing Community Garden Projects. Council is also involved in a number of smaller community garden projects at TAFE, childcare centres, and youth services that are not listed below.
