Supporters of Sustainability (SOS) Challenge Steams Ahead

The SOS Challenge is a Blacktown City Council initiative that assists residents to reduce their impact on the environment, by making a few small changes in their home and everyday life. Some of the challenges participants will be encouraged to complete include reducing their waste, energy consumption, and water consumption to name a few.
Stage 1 of the program saw 391 households commit to making changes in their lives. By signing up to the program households went into the draw to win a range of prizes including an organic fruit and vegetable box, compost bin, worm farm or family pass to Featherdale Wildlife Park. A total of 40 households received prizes spread across the five Council wards.
Congratulations to all the winners.
This week stage 2 of the program commenced, turning residents commitment into action. For the next four months, participants will be sent postcards reminding them of their commitment and challenging them to complete actions. During July participants are challenged to reduce their waste and get involved. Some of the challenges include;
  • Attaching a 'No Junk Mail' sticker to letterboxes
  • Sending in a photo of participants working compost bin or worm farm
  • Participating in National Tree Day on 29 July 2007
  • Encouraging a friend to join the SOS Challenge

By completing at least one of the above challenges participants go into the monthly draw to win either a water efficient washing machine, energy efficient fridge, Eco holiday or years supply of organic fruit and vegetables. Each month participants are put to the test with new exciting challenges.

Blacktown residents are still encouraged to join the SOS Challenge helping to restore the environment and win great prizes.
