CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES ON COUNCIL'S ADVISORY AND MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES

Following the Council Elections on 13 September 2008, Council is reviewing community representation on its Advisory Sub Committees, Neighbourhood and Community Centre and Parks Committees. Accordingly, Council is seeking nominations from residents of the City of Blacktown and members of local community organisations who are interested in becoming a member of one of the Advisory Committees listed below.
Advisory Committees provide residents and community organisations with an opportunity to participate and to advise Council on the City's service needs and issues included in Council's current Management Plan. Advisory Sub Committee membership is normally for the term of the Council, which is to September 2012. However, it may be a shorter term at the discretion of the Council.
You are invited to nominate to join one of the following Advisory Sub Committees:

Provides advice to Council on how to make Council's services and facilities accessible to community members and groups. A major task in 2009 will be the development of a new Access Policy for Council. Further information - Contact Sue Edwards 9839 6067.


  • ARTS REFERENCE GROUP
To advise on the conduct of the annual Blacktown City Art Exhibition. Further information - Contact Jenny Bisset 9839 6081.

Provides advice to Council on the needs and issues of the Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander people living in Blacktown City. Membership is open to Aboriginal & Torres Islander people who live or work in Blacktown City. Further information - Contact Bob Leslie 9839 6167.


  • BLACKTOWN CITY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE
To advise on the conduct of the annual Blacktown City Festival. Further information - Contact Peter Filmer 9839 6429.
  • BLACKTOWN CITY SPORT AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Seeking people who have an active interest in sport and recreation to provide community input on issues relating to the development of sport and recreation activities in the City. Further information - Contact Peter Filmer 9839 6429.
Provides advice to Council on the needs and issues of older people living in Blacktown City, relating to their quality of life, safety, security and self determination. Membership is open to people aged 55 years or older. Further information - Contact Pam Hawkins 9839 6287.
  • SISTER CITIES COMMITTEE
Fostering goodwill, economic development and closer cultural and sporting relationships with nominated local governments or sister cities. Further information - Contact Peter Filmer 9839 6429.

  • TOURISM LIAISON COMMITTEE
Deals with matters to further the potential development of tourism in the City and to report thereon and make recommendations to Council. Further information - Contact Ben Artup 9839 6089.
The purpose of this Committee is to work in partnership with Council in terms of the various urban companion animals initiatives it undertakes. This Committee is seeking one or two representatives from each of the following groups - community; industry; animal welfare; animal health and animal clubs and associations. Provides advice to Council on the needs and issues of young people relating to the quality of their life. Membership is open to young people aged between 12-24 who live, work or study in Blacktown City. Further information - Contact Majidi Warda 9839 6086.

During October and up to 13 November 2008, Council will be holding Annual General Meetings for its Community and Neighbourhood Centre Management Committees.
Notice is hereby given of the remaining Public Meetings to receive nominations for the following Management Committees of the Community & Neighbourhood Centres listed below. The Management Committees will have the day to day responsibility for the care, control and management of the Centres.
Residents of Blacktown City are encouraged to submit nominations for the Management Committees which are open to local residents aged sixteen (16) years and over.

Please attend and support your local Community and Neighbourhood Centre. Training and support will be provided to new members.
Council also has a number of Park Committees operating within the City which assist Council with the care, control and management of the City's parks and reserves. Should you wish to join a Park Committee, please contact Keith Nichol on 9839 6325 who will provide contact details and information on your nearest Park Committee.
Nominations for the Advisory Sub-Committees must be addressed to the General Manager, Blacktown City Council.
Closing date for nominations is 4pm on Friday, 7 November 2008.


Nominate Blacktown City's Citizen of the Year

Blacktown City Council is calling for nominations from the community for the 2009 Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

Nominations are open for those people who have provided outstanding community service or have attained outstanding achievement in education, sport, the arts or a community group that has organised a major event in Blacktown City.

The Citizen of the Year Award is open to all ages whilst the Young Citizen of the Year is for people 18 years and under. The 2009 Community Event of the Year is open to community groups who have organised an event within Blacktown City during 2008.

The winners will be announced at Council' s 2009 Australia Day Council Luncheon on Australia Day, Monday, January 26, 2009, in the Nirimba Room, Campbell Street, Blacktown.

Revised Opening Hours for the Animal Holding Facility.


Looking for your lost dog or cat? Want to find a new one?

The opening hours of Council's Animal Holding Facility located on the corner of the Great Western Highway and Flushcombe Road Prospect will change from Monday 10 March 2007 to provide greater public access.

Under the new hours the Animal Holding Facility will open and close later on weekdays and will be open longer on Saturdays. Also the facility will now be open to the public on Sundays.

The new opening hours are:

  • 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday
  • 9.00am - 1.00pm Saturday
  • 9.00am - 11.00am Sunday
