Reminder: entries close 18 August
Artists from far and wide are reminded to get their entries in for the 2008 Blacktown City Art Exhibition by 4.30pm, Monday 18 August 2008 and be part of Blacktown City's annual highlight of the visual arts program at Blacktown Arts Centre.
Showcasing a wide range of local and regional artists, the annual exhibition features painting, watercolour, works on paper and sculpture sections.
Each year, artists submit artworks for selection and judging, with total prize money and acquisitive funds of up to $24,000 on offer. Awards include First Prize for each section, plus the Indigenous Art Prize, Youth Art Prize, Environmental Art Prize and Local Artist Prize.
The exhibition also features a Children and Young Artists section that showcases the imaginative talent coming from young artists in Blacktown City. The theme for the 2008 Children and Young Artists section is 'Trees for Life', so entrants are encouraged to create works that celebrate the importance of trees in our lives.
Entries for the children's exhibition are accepted 10am - 5pm Friday 5 September and Saturday 6 September 2008 (with an entry form). Please call 9839 6558 for entry forms or visit www.artscentre.blacktown.nsw.gov.au
"Now in its thirteenth year, the Blacktown City Art Exhibition has grown in popularity and reputation to become one of the most popular art prizes in New South Wales and is recognised as a key exhibition for the local Blacktown City and Western Sydney arts community," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly said.
All selected works will be on display from 20 September - 18 October 2008 at Blacktown Arts Centre, 78 Flushcombe Rd, Blacktown.
