2009 Blacktown City Lights Up for Christmas!

*Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas*
85 percent of Christmas Tree decorations are made from recycled materials!
Blacktown City Council will once again get into the Christmas spirit on Thursday, November 19, 2009 when it lights up the first of its Christmas Trees in the Civic Plaza, Blacktown (Flushcombe Road, Blacktown) from 6.00pm.
Local residents are encouraged to bring along their families and friends, to enjoy the FREE evening of entertainment in a special Christmas Tree Light Up Concert. The concert will feature carols, local entertainment, the Humphrey B Bear Show at 8pm and a special guest appearance by Santa Clause, who will help turn on the Christmas Tree lights at 8.30pm.
The soon to be installed Christmas Tree will sit on a one metre base and stand close to 6 metres high and will be decorated with Christmas decorations and multi-coloured fairy lights, of which 85 percent is made from recycled materials.
The Christmas Tree Light Up Concert marks the first event in Council's Christmas program this year, which also includes the Blacktown City Mayoress Christmas Appeal, the Blacktown City Decorate Your Home Christmas Competition and the Mount Druitt Christmas Tree Light Up Concert in Dawson Mall, Mount Druitt (November 26).
"This is a great way for our City to get into the Christmas spirit. It's a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and share their Christmas spirit", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
In addition to the Civic Plaza's Christmas program, Council will be installing 260 Christmas banners across the City. The banners will feature contemporary Christmas designs and a traditional Nativity scene representing the birth of Christ. It is expected all the banners will be installed by Friday, November 20.
