FREE Screenings of An Inconvenient Truth during May

Residents of Blacktown City will have the opportunity to see the documentary; 'An Inconvenient Truth' during May, when Blacktown City Council with sponsorship from BP Solar and Landcom offer four FREE screenings at Hoyts Mount Druitt and Blacktown.
The Academy Award winning documentary, 'An Inconvenient Truth' features former US Vice-President, Al Gore and examines the facts behind global warming. The film claims that if the majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to address the implications of climate change, including extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and heat waves.
The FREE screenings during May will form part of the 2007 Blacktown City Festival program and will see the film screened every Monday throughout May from 7pm at Mt Druitt Hoyts Cinemas and Blacktown Hoyts Cinemas alternatively.
For each resident that attends a screening, Council will plant a tree at the greenhouse carbon sink demonstration site at Mujar Bija Reserve at Blacktown. In addition, residents will receive a free compact fluorescent light globe and there will be lucky door prizes up for grabs.
Each movie ticket to 'An Inconvenient Truth' will also be printed on paper impregnated with seeds of a native plant, which can be planted after the film screening.
The doors will open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start on the following dates:
- Monday 7 May 2007- Mt Druitt Hoyts Cinemas
- Monday 14 May 2007 - Blacktown Hoyts Cinemas
- Monday 21 May 2007 - Mt Druitt Hoyts Cinemas
- Monday 28 May 2007 - Blacktown Hoyts Cinemas
"This is a great opportunity for the people of Blacktown City to see what is instore for our planet unless we start to take action now", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
Tickets will be available from 9am, Monday, April 23, 2007 for residents of the Blacktown City Local Government Area only. Limited tickets are available and a maximum of four tickets per household applies.
