Bit of Black Business is a collection of 13 five-minute short dramas that are outrageous, courageous, mysterious, simple, straightforward and complex and will form part of Blacktown City Festival's first online event.
Revealing the contemporary lives of Indigenous Australia today in a fresh and often humorous way, the films of Bit of Black Business will be available to view from Thursday, May 1 via Council's website - www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au for visitors to view.
Predominately shot all over Australia by first time drama filmmakers, Bit of Black Business marks a new generation of Indigenous talent planning to make its mark in the Australian film industry. These short films are rated PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) and will take you on journeys to parts of Australia you have never seen before.
"The films add an exciting new element to the Blacktown City Festival. Traditionally the festival has been reserved to events and activities around the City but with these films, not only are we celebrating Indigenous artists but we can also experience festival at home", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
Bit of Black Business is an initiative of the Indigenous Branch of the Australian Film Commission (AFC), Special Broadcasting Service (SBSi), the New South Wales Film and Television Office (NSWFTO), ScreenWest and Flickerfest.
The 2008 Blacktown City Festival will take place from Saturday, May 24 until Saturday, May 31 across Blacktown City and will include military entertainment, fun runs, a children's concert featuring Wild Aussies, and the Saturday Streets Alive on May 31.
