Thursday, May 15, 2008
Blacktown City Council has expressed concerns at the announcements by the Department of Defence calling for Tenders for the sale of the Schofields Aerodrome in Sydney's North West.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said that Council had not been formally consulted by the Department of Defence about the sale of the old aerodrome site prior to the Tenders being called.
"Council is concerned at this announcement. There has not been any consultation with Council about the plans", Mayor Kelly said..
"Given that the area is currently specially zoned for Commonwealth purposes, it will be necessary for the Commonwealth to pursue rezoning of the site with the NSW Growth Centres Commission and in consultation with Council", Mayor Kelly added.
Mayor Kelly also noted that significant areas of the old aerodrome are subject to flooding which will impose restrictions as to what can be developed within these areas.
