Blacktown City Council named as Australia’s best in customer service for 2009

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Blacktown City Council has been awarded Australia's highest accolade in customer service for 2009 having won both the state and national Service Excellence Awards at the Australian Service Excellence Awards held in Sydney on Thursday, October 22, 2009.

The Awards were hosted by the Customer Service Institute of Australia - the nation's peak customer service body and secretariat for the International Council of Customer Service Organisations.

Blacktown City Council first took out the state award for excellence in customer service in the local government category before going up against the country's other state winners to take out the national title.

Blacktown City Council earned Australia's highest customer Service Award for its outstanding professionalism, dedication and responsiveness in ensuring the best possible customer service is provided by Council.

"This national award is one of great significance especially given Blacktown City Council's high volume of telephone calls which total approximately 28,000 a month to Council's Call Centre alone. Council also tends to a large number of customer enquiries face to face," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.

This year the Customer Service Institute of Australia received a record number of nominations leading to more Award submissions than ever before. Each submission went through a careful examination process and that included an on-site visit by a representative from the Institute.

"I applaud all staff, in particular Council's Customer Information Centre for their ongoing delivery of effective customer service. I believe it is a true reflection of their hard work, commitment and dedication to the people of Blacktown City," Mayor Lowles said.

"Customer Service is a demanding area and is arguably the critical success factor for many organisations. I am justifiably proud that Blacktown City Council continues to demonstrate its leadership in this area and I look forward to this continuing well into the future," Mayor Lowles said.
