Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles has extended his condolences to the people of Manila, Samoa, and Indonesia and who have all been struck with natural disasters over the past week.
Mayor Lowles expressed his sadness on behalf of the Blacktown City and wider community following the tragic loss of life and injury caused by the devastating floods, tsunami and earthquake.
"Manila's torrential floods have especially touched the lives of the people of Blacktown City given that 46 percent of the total Australian Filipino population resides in the Blacktown Local Government Area," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
"Blacktown City is also home to many Samoan, Tongan and Indonesian families who have been affected by the devastating tsunami and earthquake which recently struck the Pacific. I, as I'm sure many others, find it difficult to comprehend the tragedy which affects the lives of so many," Mayor Lowles said
"On behalf of the Blacktown City community and Council, I extend my condolences and sympathy to the residents of the Filipino, Tongan, Samoan and Indonesian communities living in Blacktown who may have lost loved ones or whose families may have suffered injuries or lost their property in the disasters," Mayor Lowles said.
"Council assured it will work with the Consulate Generals in Sydney to ascertain the best way to assist, however as an immediate step Council will consider applications to waive the fees and charges associated with the hire of its halls and other facilities for fundraising activities that are organised to help the victims of these tragic natural disasters," Mayor Lowles said.
