Blacktown City Council will celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) on Friday, March 7, 2008 with a number of events and activities planned throughout Blacktown City to mark the occasion that celebrates the economic, social, cultural and political achievements of women.
International Women's Day inspires women to achieve their full potential. Celebrated globally from Alaska to Zambia, IWD has been held since 1908 to highlight women's equality worldwide.
As part of the 2008 IWD celebratory program, Blacktown City Council will host the inaugural Women of the Year Awards.
The Awards will focus on the IWD theme for 2008, "100 years of active women in paid and unpaid work", which recognises the countless contributions that women in NSW have made towards improving their workplaces and working conditions.
