Celebrate National Sorry Day “10 year Anniversary”
Thursday, May 15, 2008
Ten years ago, the first National Sorry Day was held on May 26, 1998, one year after the tabling of the report Bringing Them Home, which was an inquiry into the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander children from their families. A recommendation of the report suggested that a National Sorry Day to be declared.
Each year since, events have held across Australia on or around May 26, to acknowledge the impact of the removal of Aboriginal children from their families.
This year in Blacktown City, community members are encouraged to attend the many events that have been organised to support the recent apology from the Prime Minister Mr. Kevin Rudd to the Aboriginal people of Australia.
