Blacktown City Bowling Club (Lismore Street, Blacktown) is inviting local residents to a Charity Bowls Day on Sunday, September 14 at 9.00am to raise money for the Cancer Council's Blacktown City Relay for Life.
Bowlers are encouraged to come in thongs, socks or flat soled shoes for this fun day of bowls. The Bowls Day is open to young and old, first time, beginners and advanced bowlers. Entry in the bowls event is $10 a head and includes a sausage sizzle, bowls coaching and bowls. There will also be raffles, a monster chocolate wheel and mystery bowls prizes during the game.
All money raised from the Bowls Day will be donated to the Cancer Council's Blacktown City Relay for Life tally.
"We are very excited about the upcoming Bowls Day. We are hopeful it will raise awareness for Cancer, the Cancer Council and also the Relay in November - which is fast becoming Blacktown City's community event of the year. The support of Blacktown City Bowls Club for this event is amazing and I encourage everyone to come along and show their support," Blacktown City Relay for Life Chairperson, Peter Filmer said.
The 2008 Blacktown City Relay for Life will take place over the November 1 & 2 weekend at Blacktown Olympic Park (Eastern Road, Rooty Hill). Residents, community groups, businesses and schools are encouraged to become a part of this community fundraising event. Billed as a 'Team Event to Fight Cancer', the Relay will involve teams of 10 to 15 people taking turns to walk laps around their local oval. Relay for Life is an overnight event - enabling walkers to come and go as they please, or pitch a tent next to the track and stay the night.
In the past 5 years the Blacktown City Relay for Life has raised over $750,000 and is the highest earning Relay for Life event in New South Wales.
