Council encourages residents to ‘Report It, Don’t Ignore It’

Monday, October 29, 2007

Blacktown City Council's Community Safety Coordinating Committee has developed the first "Report It Don't Ignore It" reporting pad for Blacktown City residents, following a request from the Bidwill Community Group.

The 'Report It, Don't Ignore It' reporting pad is available to local residents from Council and should be used to keep record of any incidents of anti-social or criminal behavior, local residents witness. Residents are then encouraged to report the incident to the Police and keep the details for their own details, along with the Police event number.

The pad also includes helpful phone numbers such as local Police stations and local fire stations.

"The 'Report It Don't Ignore It' reporting pad is encouraging residents to report crimes and anti-social behaviour to Police. If we know about it, we can do something about it. Residents reporting crimes will be given an event number where they can follow up with the Police to ensure the report has been dealt with. It is a great initiative in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in our community", Allan Harding, Superintendent, Mt Druitt Local Area Command said.

The City of Blacktown Community Safety Coordinating Committee aims for Blacktown to be a vibrant, healthy and safe City - a City of excellence. The committee's mission is to improve the safety and well-being of people within Blacktown City and the reporting pad is only one of their many initiatives.

Residents who would like to obtain a copy of the "Report It Don't Ignore It" reporting pad or for further information about the City of Blacktown Community Safety Coordinating Committee, should contact Blacktown City Council's Safer Communities Coordinator on 9839 6523.
