Council introduces improvements to Kiss and Ride area at Blacktown Railway Station
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
Blacktown City Council has installed an automatic message board and upgraded signs at the Blacktown Railway Main Street Kiss and Ride area, as part of a number of measures Council is introducing to help improve the area, maximising the benefits to motorists and commuters.
The Kiss and Ride Area, adjacent to the Railway Station, allows drivers to pick up or set down passengers within the statutory two minutes available under the kiss and ride parking restriction. The automated message board and updated signs will assist by informing/reminding motorists of the parking conditions in operation in this area.
The automatic message board is located on the overhead bridge and will advise drivers approaching the Kiss and Ride area of the restrictions that are in place at the various times during the day.
Council will continue to introduce improvements to the Kiss and Ride area in the interim period until the State Government's commitment to improve commuter car parking is provided.
Russell Mahoney, a spokesman for the Transport Minister, John Watkins, said commuter car parking was central to the Government's public transport priorities.
In addition, Council proposes to construct an additional 4 off street spaces along Main Street in the new financial year to increase capacity in this area.
"Council will continue to monitor conditions in this area to see if additional interim measures need to be provided," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly said.
