Blacktown City Council has committed its support for the next three years to the NSW Rugby League (NSWRL) All Schools State Carnival.
The NSWRL All Schools State Carnival is conducted by the NSWRL Western Sydney Rugby League Academy and has been running for the past 68 years. The carnival brings together the school junior league community from across the state for three days of competition. Each year, over 3,000 students participate in the tournament and over 5,500 spectators come along to watch the competition.
Council after being approached by NSWRL has agreed to support the All Schools State Carnival for 2010, 2011 and 2012 through financial and venue support. This support has also secured Blacktown City Local Government Area as the host of the competition for the next 3 years.
"Council is pleased to be able to support the All Schools State Carnival", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
"The carnival is a great opportunity for the young rugby league players in New South Wales to come together and build on their team work skills and development skills".
"The competition also brings a significant boost to Blacktown City's economy each year with many of the participants and their families using the local accommodation, restaurants and tourist attractions during their visit", Mayor Lowles continued.
Through Council's support, the NSWRL carnival will for the next three years be played in Blacktown City at Whalan Reserve. Council has resolved to waive the fees for the use of Whalan Reserve and provide a further $5,000 per year in financial support to assist the
Western Sydney Rugby League Academy with the various costs involved in conducting this elite school rugby league carnival.
