Entries now open for the 2007 Blacktown City Art Exhibition

Entries are now open for the 2007 Blacktown City Art Exhibition which will be held in the Blacktown Arts Centre, 78 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown from Saturday, October 27 until Saturday, November 24, 2007.

Now in its twelfth consecutive year, the Blacktown City Art Exhibition has grown in popularity and reputation to become one of the most popular art prizes in Western Sydney and is recognisedrecognised as a key exhibition for the development of outstanding local talent. It is anticipated that the 2007 exhibition will be just as popular with over 500 entries expected.

"Since its humble beginnings in 1995, the exhibition has been a central component of Council's cultural development, a role now expanded by with the re-opening of the Blacktown Arts Centre," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.

"The Blacktown City Art Exhibition reflects Council's ongoing commitment to encouraging an appreciation of the visual arts, with an emphasis on demonstrating the cultural and artistic wealth that exists within the Blacktown City Local Government Area," Mayor Kelly said.

Thanks to the support of this year's sponsors; Westlink M7, Blacktown Workers Club

Ford Land Company, Fairfax Community Newspapers, and Westpoint Blacktown, the exhibition offers a prize pool exceeding $20,000 with a number of categories to enter including Painting, Watercolour, Works-on-paper (drawing, pastel and printmaking), Sculpture and the Children's Section. This year sees the inclusion of an Arts Reference Group Prize (see next page for details of all prizes).

"I was amazed at the quality and scope of work in last year's exhibition. Works included in the 2006 Blacktown City Art Exhibition were of a very high standard and I expect the 2007 exhibition will prove to be just as impressive," Sylvia Ross, Head of School of the College of Fine Arts at the University of NSW.

For artists wishing to enter this year's exhibition, entry fee is $15.00 per entry (includes GST) with a limit of two entries per artist. Entry forms are now available from Council's Information Centre or Blacktown Arts Centre. Entries close at 4.30pm, Monday, 24 September, 2007.
