2008 Blacktown City Relay for Life Golf Day at Fox Hills Golf Course

Over $15,000 has been raised for cancer research at the 2008 Blacktown City Relay for Life Golf Day on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Fox Hills Golf Course.

The Charity Golf Day officially kicked off the fundraising campaign for the 2008 Blacktown City Relay for Life and was a huge success. Over 122 players took to the course in an Ambrose style competition, including former Rugby League legends Paul Sironen (Balmain Tigers), Gary Freeman (North Sydney Bears) and Darryl Brohman (Penrith Panthers & Canterbury Bulldogs).

The day raised money through hole sponsorship, raffle tickets, team participation and an auction which will be donated to the Cancer Council of NSW and will contribute to the Blacktown City Relay for Life fundraising tally.

"The weather was perfect for a great day of golf. The atmosphere on the course was sensational and everyone was in high spirits", Relay for Life Committee Chairperson, Peter Filmer said.

"Special thanks to all the players and businesses who participated and donated towards hole sponsors and raffle prizes".

"The day would not have been possible without the generous support of Fox Hills Golf Club, and I would like to extend a huge thank you to the club", Chairperson Filmer said.

The Blacktown City Relay for Life will be held over the November 1 & 2 weekend at the Athletics Centre at Blacktown Olympic Park (Eastern Road, Rooty Hill). The Relay will involve teams of 10 to 15 people taking turns to walk laps around their local oval over 24 hours.

Relay for Life is an overnight event - enabling walkers to come and go as they please, or pitch a tent next to the track and stay the night.

In the past 5 years, the Blacktown City Relay for Life has raised over $550,000 and is renowned as the highest earning Relay for Life event in New South Wales.
