FREE Native Plants for the first 700 visitors!
Blacktown City Council is inviting residents of all ages to attend a FREE Environmental Expo on Saturday, September 29 as part of the Woodcroft Lakes Festival (Woodcroft Drive, Woodcroft), from 9am to 4pm.
The Expo is a great opportunity to learn about how you can live more sustainable. Throughout the day there will be a range of displays and workshops with information about saving energy, waste minimisation, water reduction, biodiversity, natural cleaning, permaculture and community programs. Representatives from Streamwatch, Blacktown Solar City, Permaculture Sydney West and Botanic Gardens Trust will join Council's Environmental Staff to offer plenty of advice.
The Expo will include a workshop by EnviroCraft where residents can make their own toys from recycled and sustainable materials. There will also be 30 minute sustainable living workshops covering topics on natural cleaning, no dig gardening, chooks in backyards, worm farming and composting. Residents who would like to take part in the workshops will need to book at the information stand on the day, as spaces are limited.
If plants take your interest then make your way to the Botanic Gardens Trust stall and have a go at painting a pot and planting a seedling in a pot. Alternatively, if there will be Aerosol Art demonstrations by local experienced aerosol artists, who will transform a utility box into a work of Electric Art.
An exciting new activity called the Sustainability Stomp will have its first appearance at this year's Expo. Sustainability Stomp will offer a range of activities for residents to complete, including; a biodiversity train tour of the lake, identifying bugs, pot painting and seed raising and lots more all for FREE! To participate in the Stomp simply collect your passport at the Environmental Expo information stand and make your way around the stalls, complete the activities and collect the prizes!
Thor Blomfield from ABC's Sideshow will also amaze visitors to the Expo, performing amazing magic in the ecological thriller "Big Foot" at 1:00pm, and roaming performers from Circus Solarus will provide entertainment all day.
Residents will have the opportunity to meet wildlife from Featherdale Wildlife Park, and there will be loads of giveaways and sustainable prizes on the day including a native plant giveaway for the first 700 residents, lucky door prizes and home energy audits worth $250 up for grabs.
