Get Involved in your community! Bushcare needs You
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Blacktown City Council is inviting local residents to get involved in it's Bushcare Program which are for a range of Bushland reserves across the City.
At the current time, there are seven Bushcare groups made up of enthusiastic volunteers that assist in active bush regeneration and the planting of native trees and shrubs.
To join in no experience is necessary - just a passion for our environment!
Bushcare groups involve local residents that have an interest in the local environment and enjoy the outdoors working with other like-minded people in the community to improve local bushland reserves.
Bushland remnants in Blacktown City cared for by the various Bushcare groups are known as Cumberland Plain Woodland, which is a endangered ecological community. They contain a great diversity of trees, shrubs, herbs and grasses, some of which are listed as endangered or threatened. These areas are extremely important as they provide habitat for birds and other Australian wildlife and help provide a great environment for us to live in.
All Bushcare groups in Blacktown City are supported by Council through the provision of bush regeneration training, supervision, plants, tools, technical advice and information on grants and other special projects. Volunteers generally work for 3 hours, one weekend a month.
