Get ready for the Blacktown City Kids Marathon
Thursday, May 15, 2008
Blacktown Olympic Park, Eastern Road, Rooty Hill Sunday, July 27, 2008
For the first time, a Kids Marathon will be held in conjunction with successful third time running, Westlink M7 Cities Marathon, on Sunday, July 27, 2008 starting at Blacktown Olympic Park at 8.00am.
The Blacktown City Kids Marathon allows kids from kindergarten through to high school (up to 18 years) to run a marathon…one kilometre at a time.
Children are encouraged to commence a training program in June/July 2008 and log their kilometres. The aim is to run the first 40km of the marathon distance over a number of weeks in the participants own time, then on marathon day complete the final leg of the marathon distance of 2.195km within Blacktown Olympic Park on July 27.
Training tips for your Kids Marathon Challenge!
- Wear running shoes/sneakers and socks - proper footwear prevents foot problems
- Run or walk with a friend - you can motivate and encourage each other
- Stretch your legs before you run - stretching helps prevent injuries (hold each stretch fro 20 seconds without bouncing up and down)
- Drink LOTS of water after you run and throughout the day - water helps muscles do their work
- Get plenty of sleep - your muscles need lots of rest so you can keep running/walking everyday
- Eat a well balanced diet including lots of protein and carbohydrates - your body needs fuel to do its work!
The Blacktown City Kids Marathon is a great opportunity for school age children to start an exercise program that will continue over a number of weeks and culminate in the completion of a 'marathon'.
All entrants will receive a FREE t-shirt. All finishers will receive a medal and finisher's certificate. After the completion of the marathon, participants will be served breakfast at the finish line to watch the arrival of the first finishers of the Westlink M7 Cities Marathon.
