Heart Week in Blacktown City

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Looking for a healthy start? Want to get active? Then Blacktown City Council has just the thing - Blacktown City Heart Week Guide.

The Guide, which is now available, is a complete listing of all the healthy living events and activities taking place around Council's facilities during Heart Week 2008 (Sunday, May 4 until Saturday, May 10, 2008).

Heart Week is an initiative of the Heart Foundation encouraging people and their children to get active and live healthy and is held across Australia each May.

Statistics show that over 50 percent of the Sydney West Area Health Service, which includes Blacktown City, are overweight and have below the state average in physical activity levels, which are all major contributors to heart, stroke and blood vessel diseases.

This year, to help residents get on the right track to getting healthy, a series of activities have been organised and include;

  • FREE Heartmoves classes for any new participants at Blacktown Aquatic Centre.
  • FREE Fitness classes at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope
  • FREE Health Assessments at Emerton Leisure Centre

All the above events and more are listed on the Heart Week Guide, along with five tips for residents on what they can do to help reduce the risks of heart disease.

Council's listing of Heart Week activities is currently available on Council's website www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au or at any of the above-mentioned facilities.
