Blacktown Aquatic Centre’s Heartmoves show off at FILEX Fitness Convention

Friday, May 4, 2007

Blacktown Aquatic Centre's Heartmoves team was recently invited by the Heart Foundation to perform a demonstration Heartmoves class on the main stage of the FILEX Fitness Convention in April.

The FILEX Convention is one of the world's leading educational conventions presenting the latest research on fitness related topics delivered by an array of presenters from both Australia and around the world. The Expo provides both industry related professionals and the general public with the chance to see the latest in fitness equipment, nutritional products, fitness classes and gather health related information.

As renowned successful Heartmoves Centre, Blacktown Aquatic Centre's class was chosen as part of The Heart Foundation's efforts at the Expo to promote good heart health and to educate people about the Heartmoves program.

Heartmoves is a low to moderate intensity exercise class designed to be safe for people with stable long term health conditions such as heart disease or diabetes. Fourteen participants from Blacktown Aquatic Centre took to the stage following the directions of Deborah Huff, the Heart Foundations Project Coordinator. Participants, all aged between 50 - 80 years of age, were taken through a gentle warm up routine, followed by a cardio section and cool down.

"Although they were nervous, the group performed all of the exercises with a smile on their face and headed off the stage to the clapping of the crowd having enjoyed their 15 mins of fame" the Heart Foundations Project Coordinator, Deborah Huff said.

Since the Heartmoves demonstration at FILEX numerous Fitness Centre Managers have contacted the Heart Foundation, with most seeing Heartmoves as the solution to the gap in their Centre's programs.

Heartmoves classes are held at Blacktown Aquatic Centre, Boyd Street, Blacktown, five times per week. Classes can help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol control, manage weight and diabetes, improve balance, help with arthritis management and improve the overall quality of life.
