Blacktown City Festival event
Blacktown City Council's front foyer will host an exhibition of works by young artists during the 2007 Blacktown City Festival, highlighting the talent that abounds in Blacktown City. The exhibition called 'Creative License' will run from May 28 until Friday, June 1, 2007 and feature selected local high schools and works by local students from their high school studies.
Blacktown City Council's Civic Centre foyer, 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown, will be transformed into a temporary exhibition space for a range of works covering a variety of mediums. Some of the artists featured have had their work exhibited in the popular ArtExpress exhibition.
One young artist, Jennifer Min of Rouse Hill, will take prime location with her work mise-en-abyme; "I was fascinated by the concept of "mise-en-abyme", to have art within art, dream within dream, story within story and so on. This idea proved critical in my self-insertion into the painting as multiple, yet fragmented identities. The boundaries separating the artist and artwork are deliberately blurred, leading one to ask the question: does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?" says Jennifer of her work featured in Festival's 'Creative License exhibition.
Other artists featured in the exhibition are former students from Doonside Technology High School and Wyndham College at Quakers Hill.
"It is a pleasure to see these young people developing their talents with guidance from their school's art teachers. Council is delighted to help nurture and provide these artists with a platform to help showcase their talent. Creative License is just one way we are able to this," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
'Creative License' is FREE and will be open from 8.30am-4.30pm, Monday, May 28 to Friday, June 1 in the Civic Centre, 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown.
'Creative License' is a part of the 2007 Blacktown City Festival which will take place across Blacktown City from May 26 until June 2. A full program of festival events is now available on Council's website www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au or by phoning 9839 6000.
