31/05/2007 Over $8,000 raised on the putting green for Cancer Research!
Over $8,000 has been raised for cancer research at the 2007 Blacktown City Relay for Life Golf Day on Friday, May 25, 2007 at Ashlar Golf Course, Blacktown. The charity golf day officially kicked off the fundraising campaign for the 2007 Blacktown City Relay for Life, which will take place over the October 27 – 28 weekend at Blacktown Olympic Park.

It’s time for serious athletes in Western Sydney to gear up for the 2007 ‘Westlink M7 Cities Marathon’ on Sunday, July 29, 2007. The marathon will return once again after attracting over 100 competitors from across Australia and internationally for the inaugural race in 2006.

Blacktown City Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on its DRAFT Cultural Plan that will go on public exhibition from Wednesday, May 16 until Monday, June 18, 2007 (list of locations below). The Cultural Plan is a strategic document that will provide Council with a series of strategies and actions to support and develop the cultural landscape of the Blacktown City community. So have your say and work with Council in shaping the future cultural landscape of the City.

Four Western Sydney artists, Cathie Cox, Andrew Gadow, Mark Hooper and Isabella MacKay, are currently showcased in the exhibition Connection until Saturday, June 2 at Blacktown Arts Centre (78 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown). These artists have strong links to Blacktown City, and reflect the broad range of art practices in Western Sydney today.

Blacktown City Council’s 8-month old, Emerton Leisure Centre (corner Jersey and Poppondetta Roads, Emerton) has been selected as the venue of choice by Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) as the photographic venue for its new education and training material.

08/05/2007 Blacktown City Council wins Cultural Award for ‘Back Home’
Blacktown City Council has triumphed above Councils from across the state in winning the award for Acknowledging Culture – Aboriginal Cultural Development at the 2007 Local Government Cultural Awards. Councillor Michelle Rowland accepted the award for Back Home – a theatrical work developed in a partnership between Blacktown Arts Centre (BAC) and Urban Theatre Projects in 2005/06, at the awards ceremony at the New South Wales Parliament House, Sydney on Friday, May 4, 20007.

02/05/2007 Back by popular demand, Festival’s opening event; My Lords & Ladies Medieval Fayre
The 2007 Blacktown City Festival will open in spectacular fashion on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 as Nurragingy Reserve (Knox Road, Doonside) plays host to Knights in armour, Lords and Ladies, castles, dragons and fair maidens. My Lords & Ladies Medieval Fayre is back by popular demand in this year’s Festival and will feature everything medieval, including colourful pavilions, armed combat with swords, jousting on horseback, birds of prey and live musicians – all for FREE.

Blacktown City Council’s front foyer will host an exhibition of works by young artists during the 2007 Blacktown City Festival, highlighting the talent that abounds in Blacktown City. The exhibition called ‘Creative License’ will run from May 28 until Friday, June 1, 2007 and feature selected local high schools and works by local students from their high school studies.
