RLSSA select Emerton Leisure Centre for education and training - May 8 & 9
Blacktown City Council's 8-month old, Emerton Leisure Centre (corner Jersey and Poppondetta Roads, Emerton) has been selected as the venue of choice by Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) as the photographic venue for its new education and training material.
RLSSA are the national body for water safety and recently selected Emerton Leisure Centre for an upcoming photo-shoot, over Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 9 involving professional photographers and lifeguards. The photos at the leisure centre will assist in the development and training of professional aquatic staff, as well as educate the community on a range of issues related to water safety.
The photos from the visit will be released nationally in a range of resources as part of RLSSA commitment to educating the community on water safety, and will address the following issues;
- Swimmer resuscitation
- Rescue scenarios
- How waterslides and pool inflatables operate
- Signage
- Pool rules
- Plant room operations
- Occupational health and safety issues.
"At Council we are extremely proud of this new leisure complex and its pleasing to know that our pride is shared with such influential organisations such as Royal Life Saving. I am certain the staff at Emerton Leisure Centre and the local community are excited about the Centre being chosen", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
Emerton Leisure Centre sets the pace for leisure and recreational facilities in the area with a wide range of aquatic, leisure and sporting activities all year round. The Centre formerly known as Emerton Pool underwent an intense $15 million refurbishment and design process in 2005/06, almost tripling the facilities that were previously available at the site. The centre reopened to the community in August 2006.
