Short Story Competition winners announced

Congratulations to all the winners of the Short Story Writing Competition for Teens 2007!

The winners of the Blacktown City Libraries Short Story Writing Competition for Teens 2007 were announced recently by the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM a special function in the Blacktown City Max Webber Library (Flushcombe Road, Blacktown) in early May, 2007.

Congratulations to the following winners;

Category A, open to entrants aged 12 - 15 years

  • 1st - Thomas North - age 15, with his story titled, Follow Me
  • 2nd - Thomas Dendtler - age 15, with his story titled, Our First Kiss
  • Lucky Draw Prize Winner is Gessitya Dwissa Adana, age 12.

Category B, open to entrants Aged 16 - 18 years

  • 1st - Rebecca Clancy - age 17, with her story, A Soldier's Fate
  • 2nd - Effie Mellas - age 17, with her story, The Road Not Taken
  • Lucky Draw Prize Winner is Marvin Ramos, age 16.

The competition's focus was to encourage creative writing amongst our young people and over 59 entries. The competition was judged in two individual categories. Category A was open to entrants aged 12 - 15 years and Category B was open to entrants aged 16 - 18 years.

"The competition was held in conjunction with the Library's Creative Writing Workshop Activity for Teens and is just one example of how the Library is extending its existing Youth and HSC programs to better serve young adult patrons across the area," Mayor Kelly said.

"The judges were thrilled at the high standard of entries received and at the amazing talent of our local young people," Mayo Kelly said.
