• Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM extends an invitation to federal candidates

The Mayor of Blacktown City and Chairperson of the Save the UWS Task Force, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM is extending an invitation to all endorsed Candidates and persons of all political persuasions intending to stand as candidates for the forth coming federal election to join the Save the UWS Task Force.

The Save the UWS Task Force was formed with local, state and federal politicians and community representatives from across Western Sydney to fight the University of Western Sydney's (UWS) Board of Trustees in their decision to close its Blacktown campus at Nirimba.

The Task Force has called for the immediate reversal of the UWS Board of Trustees's decision to close the Blacktown Campus of the UWS at Nirimba in 2009, and has established an online petition - www.savetheuws.blacktown.nsw.gov.au for residents and supporters to register their protest. To date the petition has over 420 signatures from people across Western Sydney.

Banners, newspaper advertisements and letters to those most affected by the closure are just some of the other methods the Task Force has been using to lobby the UWS Board of Trustees.

"We are inviting and encouraging all supporters of the Save UWS campaign to come forward and sign the online UWS petition, further we want the ALL candidates for the next federal election to step up and show their support for the people of Western Sydney who will be greatly disadvantaged by the decision to close the Blacktown Campus of the UWS", Task Force Chairperson, Mayor Kelly said.

"We need to know that the people who want to represent the people of Western Sydney understand the what community needs are in regard to the future education of our youth., Mayor Kelly concluded.
