The Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Woolworths Blacktown for their generous donation of food to the Blacktown and Lethbridge Park Community Kitchens, during a small ceremony held on Thursday, 2 February at the Lethbridge Park Community Centre.
The Community Kitchens are supported by Council and operated by SkillPower, Wise Employment and Housing NSW as a community service that provides free meals to people in the community. The generous donation from Woolworths Blacktown will assist the Blacktown and Lethbridge Park Community Kitchens to continue to deliver nutritional food and support.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton, reiterates the importance of local support for local services such as community kitchens.
"The example of kindness shown by organisations like Woolworths Blacktown, reflect the generosity and support that is often provided by local businesses throughout Blacktown City. It is important this support and generosity continues, strengthens and helps people who need it the most."
The Mayor applauds the tireless efforts of volunteers and employees who prepare the meals for those less fortunate.
"During the period between July 2010 - June 2011, an average of 76 breakfast and lunch meals were served each day. This goes to show the need of services like these to continue within our City," Mayor Pendleton said
The food provided for the Community Kitchens is sourced by SkillPower and Mission Australia from Foodbank, First Produce Markets and Aldi Supermarkets.
Additional to this wonderful community service, over 200 people have successfully completed their hospitality training since the Community Kitchens began operation.
