Naming of Peter Brock Drive & Auto Place drives a unique Motor Sport Brand
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Blacktown City Council has renamed Reen Road, Prospect to Peter Brock Drive and Auto Place as part of the development of a Motor Sports Parklands in Eastern Creek with Investa Property Group.
The renaming changes include renaming part of Reen Road to Peter Brock Drive and the renaming of another section of Reen Road to Auto Place.
The name 'Peter Brock' was chosen as a way of recognising and commemorating the life of one of Australia's most respected and high profile racing car drivers, Peter Brock, whose life was lost under tragic circumstances in 2006.
The name of 'Peter Brock Drive' is unique in the fact that it does not duplicate a road name within the Metropolitan Sydney region.
Investa Property Group, inline with Council's Strategic Vision for Eastern Creek is developing the Raceway Precinct for the Blacktown Motor Sport Parklands.
As part of this development, the proposed Motor Sport themed road names has been issued to create a unique Motor Sport "address" that will theme the area well for the future precinct.
On the first on February 2008, Lewis Brock, brother of Peter Brock attended a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the official opening of the Road. Lewis spoke of Peter's passion for motor racing and the contribution the Peter Brock Foundation is now making to the lives of many disadvantaged Australians.
"The name of Peter Brock Drive will provide significant and instant recognition for visitors to the precinct", said Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM.
"The identification of well-known Australian motor racing legends associated with roads in the Parklands is a key attractor and economic driver to the region that supports Motor Sport related activity and tourism in Blacktown City", Mayor Kelly said.
Notification of the name changes will appear in Council's Information Pages in the local newspapers for the week commencing May 26, 2008.
