New Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected to the largest Council in NSW

Councillor Charlie Lowles is the new Mayor of Blacktown City and Councillor Alan Pendleton is Deputy Mayor, it was announced following Blacktown City Council's meeting on Wednesday, October 1, 2008.

Mayor Lowles said he is honoured to have the opportunity to once again lead Blacktown City as Mayor, having, served previously as Mayor for four consecutive terms between 1995 and 1999.

Councillor Lowles has served as a Ward 5 Councillor for more than 19 years, having been elected to Council in 1989.

"This is a very exciting time for me, I have a strong commitment to the people of Blacktown City and to be able to lead the largest and most dynamic Council in NSW is a great honour".

"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, ensuring the Community continues to be this Council's highest priority, whilst maintaining our position as a national leader in local government", Mayor Lowles said.

Councillor Lowles has played a pivotal role in the community since joining Council and has over the period been appointed as Chairman of all of Council's various Standing Committees and various other community committees .

He continues to play a prominent role in local sport, cultural, art groups, clubs and associations across Blacktown City.

All Councillor elected to Blacktown City Council are as follows:

Ward 1: Alan Pendleton (Deputy Mayor), Allan Green and Nick Tyrrell
Ward 2: Leo Kelly, Julie Griffiths and Len Robinson
Ward 3: Kathy Collins, Jess Diaz and Russ Dickens
Ward 4: Stephen Bali, Edmond Atalla and George Bilic
Ward 5: Charlie Lowles (Mayor), Tony Bleasdale and Jacqueline Donaldson
