Planet Ark's National Tree Day, Sunday, July 27, 2008
The Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM is encouraging the local community to plant a tree on National Tree Day on Sunday, July 27, 2008 to help improve the local environment and contribute to one of our City's best features - our bushland and trees.
Blacktown City Council has established five sites across the City where members of the community can meet up between 9.00am and 1.00pm, Sunday July 27, to plant trees and shrubs.
- Reserve 587, Whitehaven Avenue and Walker Street, Quakers Hill.
- Pearce Reserve, Corner of Joseph Banks Drive and Whitby Road, Kings Langley (behind tennis courts)
- Muja Bija Reserve, St Martins Crescent, Blacktown
- Morreau Reserve, Church Street, Rooty Hill.
- Mittigar Reserve, Luxford Road, Hassall Grove.
National Tree Day is Australia's biggest community tree planting event. The combined efforts of Planet Ark and local communities such as Blacktown City have ensured the success of National Tree Day over the past 12 years. This successful campaign has in turn facilitated the improvement and maintenance of clean air, and has helped to improve our environment.
"National Tree Day is the perfect opportunity for members of the community to help sustain our local environment and keep our City a green City", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
Council is encouraging all residents to assist in the success of this year's Planet Ark Tree Day. Local schools will also have opportunity to participate in this terrific environmental initiative, with Schools Tree Day taking place on Friday, July 25, 2008.
A thank you BBQ will be held from 10.00am at Muja Bija Reserve, St Martins Crescent, Blacktown for all volunteers that offered their support.
Remember - for a fun day, bring along a drink, wear a hat, long sleeve shirt, long pants, gloves and appropriate closed in shoes.
