Council receives funding from Envirofund for three bushland
restoration projects
Blacktown City Council has been successful in receiving funding under the 2006/2007 Natural Heritage Trust Envirofund for three bushland restoration and rehabilitation projects in the Mount Druitt and Riverstone areas.
Successfully funded projects include:
- The Rooty Hill (Eastern Road, Rooty Hill) which will receive $29,150 to undertake bush regeneration works and install bollards to delineate conservation zones.
- Knudsen Reserve (Garfield Road West, Riverstone) which will receive $4,639 to undertake bush regeneration works.
- RAAF Park (Belmore Road, Mt Druitt) which will receive $18,205 to undertake bush regeneration works and build walking trials as well as installing bollards to delineate conservation zones.
All three sites are valuable bushland reserves and form part of the Cumberland Plain Woodland, an endangered ecological community.
"This funding will greatly assist Council in its bush regeneration program and will be a great addition to the existing works being carried out", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
Each of the funded projects were identified following consultation with Council's Bushcare Volunteers. These volunteers regularly give up their time, once a month, to help restore Blacktown City's bushland, by undertaking bush regeneration.
Residents who would like to volunteer their time as a Bushcare Volunteer or would like to find out more about volunteering should call Council's Park's Technical Officer on 9839 6074.
