Safety Watch Program for Ropes Crossing
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Blacktown City Council in conjunction with Delfin Lend Lease have developed a Safety Watch Program for Ropes Crossing.
The new community-based safety and crime prevention program is designed to minimise the incidence of preventable crime in an area that is still a relatively new community. Ropes Crossing is one of Blacktown City's newest suburbs, taking in the Eastern Precinct of St Marys and covering 132ha, the suburb is expected to contain up to 1,800 homes when complete.
The program which was launched on Sunday, October 11 at a Safety Watch Expo held in Ropes Crossing for the local community, will work towards preventing crime by:
- Encouraging residents to be more aware of their personal property and belongings
- Increasing the reporting of crime and suspicious activity to local police
- Improving personal and household security through education
- Encouraging the community to work together to prevent crime in the community
As part of the program, every household in Ropes Crossing will receive a Safety Watch pack to promote community safety in their area. The pack will include:
- Handy Hints for Good neighbours brochure
- Emergency contact card
- Emergency contacts fridge magnet
- Ropes Crossing Safety Watch Coordinator card
- Emergency contact card for young people
- Letterbox sticker
- Window sticker
- 'Report It, Don't Ignore It' reporting pads
- Contacts swapping cards
"Community Safety is one of Council's highest priorities and the introduction of the community watch program in Ropes Crossing is just one way Council is helping to instil a sense of well-being, safety and security into our communities", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
"Residents across Blacktown City are also encouraged to be more aware of their surroundings and contact Council for a Report It, Don't Ignore It pad, which allows residents to record information of crime or disturbances to the Police and keep a record of the details", Mayor Lowles said.
The Ropes Crossing Safety Watch Project is an initiative of Delfin Lend Lease and Blacktown City Council, and coordinated by local Ropes Crossing resident Lisa Evans.
