  • 391 Households have signed up for the challenge already!

Blacktown City Council's, Supporters of Sustainability Challenge initiative has been an overwhelming success to date with over 391 households committed to becoming Supporters of Sustainability (SOS).

The program assists residents reduce their impact on the environment, by making a few small changes in their home and everyday life. Some of the challenges participants are encouraged to complete include reducing their waste, energy consumption, and water consumption, just to name a few.

Stage 1 of the program saw 391 households commit to becoming Supporters of Sustainability. By signing up to the program households went into the draw to win a range of prizes including an organic fruit and vegetable box, compost bin, worm farm or family pass to Featherdale Wildlife Park. A total of 40 households received prizes spread across the five Council wards.

Congratulations to all the winners!

This week, Stage 2 of the program commenced, turning residents commitment into action. For the next four months, participants will be sent postcards reminding them of their commitment and challenging them to complete actions.

During July participants were challenged to reduce their waste and get involved. Some of the challenges included;

  • Attaching a 'No Junk Mail' sticker to letterboxes
  • Sending in a photo of participants working compost bin or worm farm
  • Participating in National Tree Day on 29 July 2007
  • Encouraging a friend to join the SOS Challenge

Each month participants are put to the test with new exciting challenges. By completing at least one of challenges each month, participants go into a monthly draw to win either a water efficient washing machine, energy efficient fridge, Eco holiday or a years supply of organic fruit and vegetables.
