Sustainable House Day 2007- Real Houses for Real People: Be Inspired!

Thursday, August 30, 2007

  • Saturday, September 8, 2007

Rob Kemp of Rooty Hill will open the doors of his 'energy efficient' home to the public on Saturday, September 8, 2007 as part of National Sustainable House Day.

Some of Australia's most Sustainable homes will be open to the public on Sustainable House Day and with the APEC Summit on the weekend of the event, it provides a perfect opportunity for residents to stay local and gain first-hand an insight into how a sustainable home operates.

Homes across Australia will be on display featuring passive solar design and some with active solar features, sustainable building products, water saving and recycling technologies and so much more!

Rob Kemp transformed his classic 1950s home into a model of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Rob's house (132 Hartington Street, Rooty Hill) will be open to the public, on Sustainable House Day between 10am - 4pm. Entry costs $5 and all visitors will receive a free information kit packed with ideas, advice and product information.

If you are interested in visiting Rob's home for some inspiration? Council will host a free bus tour for 20 lucky residents that will visit Rob's home and other sustainable homes in Western Sydney. Another 100 residents will receive free entry to Rob's home.

To be in the draw you must be a resident of Blacktown City and a part of Council's Supporters of Sustainability (SOS) Challenge by Friday, August 31, 2007.

To join the SOS Challenge register at www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au and follow the prompt or simply contact Council on 9839 6125.
