Blacktown City Council is offering tertiary scholarships of $1,500 each to eleven Blacktown City residents who have completed at least one year of a current enrolment at a recognised tertiary institution by the end of 2009 and continues study in 2010.
One of the eleven scholarships, The Anne Aquilina Memorial Scholarship, will be made to a student who is studying physiotherapy, sports medicine or health sciences.
The Tertiary Scholarships are a great boost for a student and can be put towards their tuition fees, books and resources and other academic expenses.
"Since the establishment of the scholarship program 15 years ago, many residents have been assisted in their pursuit of tertiary education", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
"The diversity of courses being undertaken by our City's students will serve the Blacktown City community extremely well when their studies have concluded and they utilise their knowledge in their working lives in our City," Mayor Lowles continued.
Applicants for the Tertiary Scholarships MUST be residents of Blacktown City and previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply.
Applications should be submitted on Council's standard application form that is available from the Information Desk at the Civic Centre located at 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown or at any of Council's Libraries.
Applicants may attach to their application a brief personal statement as to how the scholarship will assist them and how residents of Blacktown City might benefit from their further education. Copies of any supporting documentation deemed relevant should also be attached.
Applications must be accompanied by a copy of the transcript relating to current studies.
Applications close: 4.30pm, Friday, January 15, 2010. For further information, please contact Council on 9839 6429 for further details.
