Blacktown, June 11 - Discover a master of the classical music world when the Sydney Symphony returns to the Bowman Hall on Wednesday, June 11. Unearth the secrets of the magnificent composer Sibelius with renowned music educator Richard Gill as he guides the audience on a journey filled with music in a unique live performance and informative exploration of classical music.

The performance will form part of the Sydney Symphony's Discovery Concerts and will be performed by the Sydney Sinfonia - the Sydney Symphony's mentoring orchestra which comprises Australia's elite young musicians working alongside Sydney Symphony musicians.

According to Sydney Symphony Education Program Artistic Director, Richard Gill, the popularity of the Discovery Concerts demonstrates the desire audiences have for a deeper understanding of classical music.

"2008 represents my 16th year at the helm of the Sydney Symphony's Education Program and I am proud to offer the Discovery concerts to Sydney audiences as a vehicle for them to learn more about classical music," says Gill.

Since the start of the Sydney Symphony Education Program in 1982, the Program has expanded to become the largest orchestral music education program in Australia, reaching nearly 40,000 people throughout the state each year, from programs performed in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall to instrumental workshops in regional NSW.

In 2008, the Sydney Symphony's Education Program will continue its award-winning work, providing world-class music education for students, teachers, composers, conductors and audiences across NSW through a range of innovative schemes.
