Working towards developing vibrant commercial centres
Blacktown City Council has completed the latest stage of its embellishment works in the Blacktown CBD at a cost of $600,000.
The works which commenced in late June, 2009 form part of Council's multi-million dollar upgrade to the CBD and focused on the Alpha Street (south side) from the
K-Mart car park roundabout to Flushcombe Road and extended along Flushcombe Road between Alpha Street and Newtown Road.
The upgrade works included the replacement of pavers on the footpath, street lighting, landscaping and new street furniture.
"The upgrade works to the CBD have made the CBD more accessible, safe and more visually appealing to the community", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.
"I would like to thank the community and businesses in the embellishment area for their patience during the construction phase. I am sure they are pleased with the results and excited to see the ongoing improvements taking place in the Blacktown CBD", Mayor Lowles continued.
The embellishment works of the Blacktown CBD complements Council's strategy - Vibrant Commercial Centres from the Blacktown City 2025 document. The strategy outlines Council's commitment to delivering two major CBDs (Blacktown City and Mount Druitt) by 2025, as well as supporting town and neighbourhood centres strategically located throughout the City's residential areas. All centres are accessible, vibrant, safe and meet the needs of the community.
