Our City

Aged Services

Blacktown's aged population (55+) constitutes around 10% of the total population of Blacktown residents. The fastest growing sector of the local population are those aged 80+. The current and forthcoming older population cohort is projected by researchers to be healthier, more active and more productive than preceding generations. However there are many older people who will still need domestic and personal support at home. Council works with, and lobbies, State and Federal governments and local organisations to improve funding for these services.

Council believes that older people are a valuable asset within our community providing a range of care and support for their family members and friends and neighbours, volunteering, as well as in the paid workforce. At Council we are committed to supporting the active participation of older people within our community. To this end Council has established the Seniors Advisory Sub Committee which reports directly to Council and is comprised of older residents from across our city.

Council also employs an Aged Planner to support the development, delivery and planning of services for older people. Contact them on 9839 6287 or amy.lawton@blacktown.nsw.gov.au for more information and assistance.
